Eligibility

Who is eligible to purchase Navy Mutual products?

Navy Mutual provides affordable life insurance and annuities* to those who serve or have served our nation and their spouses. If you are an active duty, reserve/guard, or retired service member in any branch of the United States military or uniformed services, or a military spouse we’d be honored to serve you. See below for our specific eligibility criteria.

Active Duty, Reserves, and Retired§ Military

Current and Retired§ Uniformed Services

  • U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration1 
  • U.S. Public Health Service

Veterans

Veterans who were honorably discharged and reside in one of the following states:

  • Arizona
  • Connecticut
  • Florida
  • Hawaii
  • Maryland
  • North Carolina
  • Oregon
  • Rhode Island
  • South Carolina
  • Texas
  • Virginia

Military Spouses

If you are the spouse of an active duty, reserve, or retired service member you are eligible.2 Spouses of veterans who fit the veteran eligibility criteria are also eligible.2 Spouses of veterans who are already Navy Mutual Members, but reside outside of the 11 states listed above, are also eligible.2 Membership for spouses2 is established through the current or former service member.

Children and Grandchildren

Children and grandchildren of Navy Mutual Members are eligible to purchase plans once a Member has purchased a policy on their behalf prior to age 18, and after they reach age 26.3

Navy Mutual Members

Once a Member always a Member. Navy Mutual Members may apply for additional plans regardless of service status or state of residence.

Age

Some life insurance products have age limits. Contact us for more details. Annuity* products do not have any age limits.

 

   

 

Notes:

1. Member: To the extent permitted by law, officers and enlisted, regular or reserve, active, retired or honorably discharged members of the Sea Services are eligible for Membership in the Association. Membership is available to an eligible individual who meets the Association’s admission requirements and pays any associated fees. 

2. Associate Member: Associate status in the Association is available to: spouses of existing or deceased Members, active duty, retired, reserve component/National Guard or honorably discharged members of the Army or Air Force and their spouses, and current employees of Navy Mutual. 

3. Affiliate Member: Affiliate status in the Association is available to the children and grandchildren of Members and Associates. Those eligible may become Affiliates if an insurance plan or annuity is purchased on their behalf by a Member or Associate prior to their attaining the age of 26. 

* Navy Mutual can sell annuities to anyone who fits the eligibility criteria above excepting New York and Virginia Beach, Virginia residents.

§ Navy Mutual can sell to retired veterans and uniformed service members in all states excluding Minnesota.
